THE ARCHITECTURAL INSTITUTE OF PARIS
The Architectural Institute is a centre for international architectural discourse, education, and research in Paris.
The Institute’s primary activity is as a private school of architecture and interior design, and in addition, the Institute hosts public events, exhibitions, lectures, and book publications as part of its mission to advance international discourse on architecture and design in the city of Paris.
Our Schools of Architecture & Interior Design were developed in response to the changes in the economic, demographic, technological, and environmental context in which architects’ and designers’ operate over the last decade, as well as the changing nature of architectural and design practice today.
The School of Architecture & Interior Design post-graduate courses are, by virtue of the culture of the School and the international background of its founders and staff, the only genuinely international english-language architecture and interior design school in Paris.
In addition to its academic programmes, the Institute hosts public events, exhibitions, lectures, and book publications as part of its mission to advance international discourse on architecture and design in the city of Paris.
OVERVIEW
Located in the historic artists’ district of Montmartre, Paris, the school is positioned at the heart of Europe in one of the world’s most iconic international cities. Continuing this international focus, our programme of study prepares graduates to to enter in the fields of architecture, construction, philosophy, journalism, emerging technologies, and the arts.
Paris is a truly global metropolis; a city that one might mention in the same series as London or New York, and yet unlike those two cities remains quite culturally impenetrable to most visitors. Studying at the Institute offers a route into discovering and living in the city of Paris, while providing the academic rigour and studio culture of a UK or US architecture post-graduate course.
The Institute equips its graduates with the artistic, philosophical, intellectual and technical skills required by industry to produce exceptional future professionals. Set in the centre of Paris, informed by the British, American, and European design and construction world, and with key skills workshops provided by a faculty of leaders in the creative industries from all over the world, the Institute is deliberately international; producing the next generation of global architectural practitioners.
The Architectural Institute offers a new and radical approach to architectural pedagogy centred around individual year-long research projects at the Master's level.
In conjunction with design studios, the Institute provides integrated workshops aligned with students' coursework. These include topics such as narrative speculation, film, prototyping, bookbinding and communication design, generative AI, diagramming, 2D & 3D software, BIM, project management, professional practice, and environmental design.
The Institute’s curriculum is student-focused, and offers industry-level facilities for sculpture, drawing, model-making, and prototyping. The school also offers start-up and and career advice services including a start-up pathway offering graduates of the school support to commercialise their ideas.
The academic year culminates in the End of Year Show, a public gallery exhibition held in central Paris showcasing each student’s work.
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Architectural Institute offers a research-based pedagogical structure, combining core architectural components with emerging professional and intellectual requirements, better preparing its graduates for work in practice, establishing their own practices, or work in related fields. Each teacher at the Institute is also active in practice, so that we retain our strong connection to industry.
AN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL IN PARIS
There exists no other school in Paris offering a post-graduate only English-language programme closely integrated to an international RIBA Chartered Practice, and mandating graduates complete ARB Part 2, and this make the programme at the Architectural Institute unique in Paris and, by extension, in France.
There are other schools which teach some of their programmes in English, as well as some schools within the French public sector with particular studios operating in English.
However, the Architectural Institute of Paris and its post-graduate architecture course is, by virtue of the culture of the School and the international background of its founders and staff, a genuinely international english-language and culturally international architectural school in Paris.
AN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
The course at the Architectural Institute of Paris attracts a vibrant and international range of applicants from which the cohort is formed. It is this global outlook, and greater freedom to define one’s own career direction that the Architectural Institute of Paris is placed at the core of the programme at the Institute.
